United Way of Abilene visits “Gilligan’s Island”
United Way of Abilene welcomed over 350 guests aboard the USS LIVE UNITED on Thursday, October 29. Known to some as the Taylor County Expo Center Round Building, the “ship” set sail on a fun island excursion to Gilligan’s Island. Food was provided by United Supermarkets and Mrs. Baird’s. Coca Cola Enterprises provided the drinks.
Steve and Kim Nussbaum, this year’s campaign co-chairs, welcomed everyone on board and led the passengers and crew in search of the missing people on Gilligan’s Island. Dr. Bob Hunter was a crowd favorite, portraying Gopher from the TV show Love Boat. Other memorable characters were Risha Sanders as Ginger from Gilligan’s Island and KTXS news anchor George Levesque as Mr. Roark from Fantasy Island.
This year’s campaign goal is $2.3 million and $829,805 has been raised to date. The Nussbaums spoke on the important work United Way of Abilene funded organizations do in the 19 country area that they serve. They encouraged every person to step forward and “Live United” by supporting United Way of Abilene financially.
Program Providers were recognized for the employee campaigns they ran, as well as the work they do every day to help people in our community. Certificates were awarded to “Cornerstone” companies who saw a 20% or more increase in their United Way employee campaigns.
The next report luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 3 at the Taylor County Expo Center Round Building. Call 677-1841 or send an e-mail to office@unitedwayabilene.org for reservations.
