United Way of Abilene returns to “Gilligan’s Island”
Many familiar characters from such well-known television shows as Gilligan’s Island, the Love Boat, and Fantasy Island made an appearance today at United Way of Abilene’s third report luncheon. Over 300 guests were welcomed to “Gilligan’s Island,” better known to some as the Taylor County Expo Center Round Building. The lively program picked up where the last report luncheon had left off, with the crew of the USS LIVE UNITED resuming their efforts to rescue Gilligan and the gang.
The Wylie Jazz Band greeted guests with live music. Food was provided by Ben Richey Boys Ranch and H-E-B. Coca Cola Enterprises provided the drinks. Dale Cartee, United Way of Abilene’s board chair, welcomed everyone to the luncheon and Dr. Eduardo Rivera, Senior Minister, St. Paul United Methodist Church led the invocation.
Captain Stubing, aka Steve Nussbaum, campaign co-chair, recognized Cornerstone certificate recipients which are organizations who achieved a 20% or more increase in their employee campaigns. Sharon Riley, as Mary Ann, and Susan King, portraying Mrs. Howell handed out the certificates and Ginger, aka Risha Sanders, gave out kisses.
Kim Nussbaum, campaign co-chair, made a speech via Dr. John Russell as the Professor’s latest invention, a “Virtually Real Life Transmitter and Receptions Receiver” and Steve Nussbaum, announced the current campaign total is $1,450,931.
